Why Seal Your Asphalt?

All organized matter on earth is in a continual state of deterioration. Asphalt does not escape from this fact, instead asphalt deteriorates quite rapidly especially considering modern day refineries extract more and more of the lighter end oils that keep your pavement durable and flexible.

Rain and sun play a large factor in the deterioration of your pavement. The rain penetrates thru the open voids of the asphalt and the sun oxidizes and hardens the binder. Asphalt is primarily composed of sand, gravel and binder. As the pavement ages the binder becomes brittle and the smaller aggregate pieces become dislodged leaving the larger rock exposed. You may have seen old rough asphalt with this type of deterioration in a local parking lot. These small particles can never be replaced. As the pavement becomes brittle and water penetrates the pavement it looses flexibility and you will see shrinkage cracks, stress cracks, raveling and pavement failure.

How Do I Protect My Pavement?

Asphalt System, Inc has developed a unique pavement sealer with properties ideal for the airfield industry. GSB- 88 is a Gilsonite based rejuvenator/ binder that adds back to the asphalt the essential oils needed for flexibility while at the same time leaving on the surface a durable protective jet black coating. Gilsonite is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon found only in eastern Utah. Gilsonite is very resistant to oxidation and compatible with asphalt and aggregates. Combined with additional oils and resins GSB-88 penetrates the binder and locks in your surface fines.

Designed as an early surface treatment to keep your good pavement good, GSB-88 is ideally used earlier in the pavement life than latter. However in many cases GSB has been used to bind heavily raveling surfaces until a new wear course is placed.

Preventative maintenance has been proven to be up to 10 times more cost effective than corrective maintenance.

GSB-88 is applied with a computer controlled asphalt spreader truck at a pre-determined rate. Job specific, the project can be sanded for additional skid resistance.

Benefits Of GSB-88 Include

  1. Preserves Your Pavement Investment
  2. Easily Applied
  3. Extends Pavement Life
  4. Rapid Cure Time
  5. Greatly Enhances Sight Visibility
  6. No Harmful Chemicals
